Event Details

From eighteenth-century Connecticut to the present, what are the fundamental ethics in medical education, research and treatment that affect African Americans?

In the early 1950's, Henrietta Lacks was treated for cancer at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD.  Her cells—taken without her knowledge—became one of the most important tools in medical research.

Join us for a panel discussion of issues such as how medical ethics have failed the African American community and the status of the skeleton of Fortune, an enslaved man in Waterbury Connecticut. Panelists  include scientists, researchers, Henrietta Lacks' son, David Lacks and moderater Kojo Nnamdi of WAMU radio.

Please RSVP for first seating.  Freee and open to the public.
